As we gear up for these prestigious events, here's everything you need to know about the topics that will be used at this year’s NOF Championship Tournament.
Synchronous National Championships Topics
For those participating in our live, synchronous event, the topics are designed to engage deep analytical thinking and robust debate:
Lincoln-Douglas Debate:
Topic: "Resolved: In a democracy, a people ought to have the right to secede from their government."
Public Forum Debate:
Topic: "Resolved: The United States should establish a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement with the European Union."
Extemporaneous Speaking:
Categories: US Elections, Economy, Asia & Eastern Europe, Africa
Impromptu Speaking:
Elementary and Middle School Divisions: Concrete nouns, abstract nouns, and proverbs for prelim rounds, with quotations for elimination rounds.
High School Division: Quotations for all rounds.
Congress, Worlds, and NOF Mock Trial:
Release Date for Topics: May 13th at 12:00 PM Pacific, two weeks prior to the tournament.
Asynchronous National Championships Topics
Our asynchronous tournament allows competitors to showcase their skills via pre-recorded submissions, and the topics are equally challenging:
Lincoln-Douglas Debate:
Topic: "Resolved: The primary objective of the United States criminal justice system ought to be rehabilitation."
Public Forum Debate:
Topic: "Resolved: The United Nations should abolish permanent membership on its Security Council."
Policy Debate:
Topic: "Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase fiscal redistribution in the United States by adopting a federal jobs guarantee, expanding Social Security, and/or providing a basic income."
Congress, Async Debate, Assigned Platform, and NOF Mock Trial:
Release Date for Topics: May 13th at 12:00 PM Pacific, three weeks prior to the tournament.
Extemporaneous and Impromptu Speaking:
Release Date for Topics: June 1st at 12:00 PM Pacific.
